We monitor tourism performance using key indicators such as economic contribution and business activity, drawing on data from TRA, Tourism Australia, ABS, BITRE, and the IMF.
The NT Tourism Satellite Account summary presents data annually on the direct and indirect economic contribution of tourism in the Northern Territory, sourced from Tourism Research Australia's (TRA) State Tourism Satellite Accounts.

The 2024–25 release is based on a new sub-national TSA model, aligning with updates to the ABS National Tourism Satellite Account and TRA’s transition from the National Visitor Survey (NVS) to Domestic Tourism Statistics (DoTS). Collectively, these changes have had a large impact on the NT level results, including a backcast to 2023-24 figures.
The NT’s reported figures include the impact of the tourism sector across the rest of Australia. TRA publishes figures that exclude the rest of Australia as the sum of all states and territories would be greater than the total.
For more detail on the methodology and results, please refer to TRA’s website: State Tourism Satellite Accounts.
The NT Regional Tourism Satellite Accounts can be accessed via the Tourism Research Australia website.
