Northern Territory Visitor Economy Strategy 2032

Darwin Festival

The Northern Territory’s visitor economy is one of our most powerful levers for achieving the Territory’s priorities — from rebuilding the economy to strengthening communities and restoring lifestyle.

“We recognise the visitor economy as a powerful lever for economic growth, community vibrancy, and the restoration of lifestyle for all Territorians.”
Minister for Tourism and Hospitality and Major Events,  Marie-Clare Boothby

Since June 2025, we have been on an exciting journey to develop a Strategy that sets a bold vision to grow a thriving, year-round visitor economy to power the Territory’s future.

After robust sector research and insights input combined with initial discussions with key strategic partners, Discussion Paper was published in July 2025.

Our multilayered and collaborative approach involved sharing the Discussion Paper and engaging closely with existing working groups, stakeholders, and other government departments. Over the following months and leading up to the October Roadshow, we listened to stakeholders from across the Northern Territory — including operators, community representatives, local government, industry partners, and Traditional Owners — to gather diverse insights and perspectives.

In November 2025, we launched the Northern Territory Visitor Economy Strategy 2032: High-Level Strategy Framework.

Having laid strong foundations to build on through the Discussion Paper, consultation with diverse stakeholders and the launch of the high-level Strategy framework, we begin the next phase of collaboration with partners working on implementation.
