Regional profiles
Tourism and Events NT's regional profiles provide a detailed look into each of the Northern Territory tourism regions.
The regional profiles provide information on regional trends, visitor demographics, transportation, dispersal and other key issues unique to each of the regions. The regional reports also analyse the consumer perspective on each of the regions and what drives them to visit the region.
The regional profiles are up to December 2024 and are based on National Visitor Survey (NVS) and International Visitor Survey (IVS).
NOTE: From January 2025 Domestic Tourism Statistics (DoTS) replaced the NVS as Tourism Research Australia's method for collecting Australian resident travel data. All data from 2025 will be based on DoTS. Due to methodological differences, DoTS data is not directly comparable with NVS figures. International visitor statistics remain unchanged and continue to be collected via the International Visitor Survey.

Value of tourism
Tourism is a fundamental pillar of the Territory's economy and contributes across a range of industries. Visitors arrive in the Northern Territory and spend money on attractions, meals and accommodation - leading to broader economic benefits. Improvements in tourism product and services enhance the Territory's liveability and enjoyment for residents, while encouraging visitation and spend in the regions. Tourism no doubt brings tremendous economic value through visitor spending, but it is also an important source of job creation.
Tourism and Events NT subscribes to and conducts economic and industry monitoring that covers key performance indicators such as the value of tourism to the Northern Territory economy and the stability of the Territory's tourism industry through the number of tourism businesses.
