Total Solar Eclipse 2028 - EOI

Northern Territory will be one of Australia's best places to witness a rare total solar eclipse. The Barkly Region lies within the path of totality, where the moon will completely block the sun for up to 4 minutes and 57 seconds.

Tennant Creek and surrounding areas will offer one of the country's premier eclipse viewing experiences, with the eclipse occurring high in the sky during the dry season, providing favourable conditions and a strong likelihood of clear skies.

How to get involved

Expressions of interest (EOI) are open for specified commercial opportunities associated with the 22 July 2028 total solar eclipse at Karlu Karlu / Devils Marbles Conservation Reserve and Tennant Creek Telegraph Station. 

The expression of interest is open to anyone interested in the published opportunities, subject to the requirements of each location. Before applying, review the relevant information pack for details about available opportunities, site conditions, costs, eligibility and assessment criteria. 

Expressions of interest close on 23 October 2026. 

This expression of interest relates to the specified commercial opportunities only. It does not determine viewing access for independent travellers. Information about other visitor opportunities and a broader event and viewing experience will be shared as arrangements are confirmed. 

Access to these culturally and historically significant sites will be carefully managed in consultation with Traditional Owners and site managers, and in line with safety and regulatory requirements.
